SCIP Study Aboriginal Oversight Board

The Penicillin Team at The Kids are seeking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to join the Aboriginal Oversight Board for the SCIP study.

The Penicillin Team at The Kids Research Institute Australia are seeking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to join the Aboriginal Oversight Board for the SCIP study. This is an opportunity for people with lived-experience of Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) and health professionals who work with RHD to guide the study.

The SCIP Study is an Aboriginal co-led study exploring a new treatment option for people living with RHD.

SCIP stands for SubCutaneous Injections of Penicillin. It uses the same penicillin medicine which many people with RHD already used regularly to protect their heart.

The Aboriginal Oversight Board

Board members will guide this study to help us make SCIP available in the best way possible. They will share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives to help make sure the study is culturally safe and respectful.

What's involved?

  • The Board will meet online several times in the next year
  • In-person meetings may also occur
  • Vouchers will be provided as thanks for taking part in meetings

If you are interested in joining the Aboriginal Oversight Board, please contact the study co-lead, Rachel Burgess at SCIP.RHD@thekids.org.au.
