At the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) Annual Meetings in 2024 and 2025, our team convened stakeholder engagement sessions on next-generation malaria vaccines. The aim was to bring diverse groups across the malaria vaccine community together to: 1) identify the key barriers slowing the development of the next generation of vaccines, and 2) to start coordinating efforts to overcome them.

The sessions moved from scene-setting panel discussions and Q&A into focused working groups, where participants worked to sharpen the field's understanding of those barriers, and to find ways of making vaccine development more efficient and impactful.

The broader goal of this convening was practical: to build a shared view of what the community needs, and to begin the conversations that turn these into progress.

A report of the proceedings can be found on the Malaria Eradication Scientific Alliance (MESA) website, here: Next-Generation Malaria Vaccines: Stakeholder Engagement Meeting (November 2024).
