The C3 Study

The C3 Study is an exploration into best practice around co-research with youth consumers being led by the Adolescent Health and Wellbeing Team at The Kids Research Institute Australia, who are based in Adelaide.

About the C3 Study

C3 (Core Competencies and Reporting Items in Co-research) aims to generate evidence to create enabling environments for co-research with young people. It focuses on two critical aspects:

  1. understanding the core competencies and resources required by adult researchers to work in meaningful and effective partnerships with young people in knowledge co-production.
  2. defining essential elements for reporting to improve completeness and transparency in research outputs.

This study has approval from the University of Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee.

What will participation in the study involve for me?

Youth experts

  • Take part in a 1:1 chat online with a C3 team member about your experiences working with adult researchers. We would like to learn more about your role on the research, wat you enjoyed and what you would do differently.
  • Take part in 2 short surveys to help us rank what skills and knowledge are important for adult researchers to have and what items need to be included in reports that describe youth partnerships in research.

Adult researchers

  • Take part in an online interview to share your experiences on critical skills required to meaningfully engage young people in co-research or co-design. We will also explore what are essential reporting items.
  • Take part in 2 rounds of a short anonymous online surveys to rank and reach consensus around core competencies and essential reporting items.
