The Kids Research Institute Australia has been awarded a prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) tender to lead the national review of the revised Draft Statement on Consumer and Community Involvement in Health and Medical Research.
This significant project highlights the expertise of The Kids Community Engagement team, recognised for its longstanding commitment to inclusive and impactful engagement with stakeholders, consumers, and community members to improve health outcomes.
Senior Manager Community Engagement, Belinda Frank, said the team was proud to be leading the important initiative.
“For more than 20 years, consumer and community involvement has been at the heart of our work. This project is a valuable opportunity to collaborate with other leading health organisations, capturing the consumer voice and shape the future of health research in Australia.”
Working closely with researchers at The Kids, the Community Engagement team has built an internationally recognised program that encourages and facilitates consumer and community involvement in health and medical research—including with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
The team also collaborates closely with The Kids Kulunga Aboriginal Unit, which provides support, advice, and community navigation to ensure research responds to community needs.
What is 'The Statement' and why does it matter?
The core purpose of 'The Statement' is to guide research funders, research institutions, researchers, consumers, and community members in the active involvement of consumers and community members across all aspects of health and medical research.
Following a comprehensive review in 2024, the revised Statement aims to foster more meaningful partnerships and ensure research outcomes are truly reflective of community needs.
