We describe the development and evaluation of a protocol for digital image collection by the non-professional photographer in a remote setting research trial
Despite initial improvements in survival of infants with ALL since establishment of the first pediatric cooperative group ALL trials, the poor outcome has...
Immediate plating of impetigo swabs is the gold standard for bacterial recovery but is rarely feasible in remote regions.
We know many families have questions about the risk of COVID-19 to children with type 1 diabetes. To address these questions, Perth Children’s Hospital’s Diabetes Clinic has provided information and resources to help you navigate this tricky period.
The reciprocal relationship between psychiatric and substance use disorders is well-known, yet it remains largely unknown whether mental health morbidity causally leads to addictive behaviours. This paper utilises a fixed effects instrumental variables model, which is identified by time-varying sources of plausibly exogenous variations in mental health, and a nationally representative panel dataset from Australia to present robust evidence on the causal impact of mental distress on cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking behaviours.

In 2006, when a Japanese scientist building on the earlier work of a British biologist discovered a way to reprogram adult cells into other cell types – making them ‘pluripotent’ – the scientific world was entranced.
Antibodies that target immune checkpoints such as cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4, programmed cell death protein/ligand 1 are approved for treatment of multiple cancer types.
Infection Triggered Encephalopathy Syndrome (ITES) is a rare but potentially severe complication of infections in children. ITES is a syndrome of acute encephalopathy that occurs in the context of a febrile illness and hypothesised to result from a cytokine mediated infection-triggered cytotoxicity in the central nervous system (CNS) without parenchymal inflammatory cell infiltration. ITES is considered distinct from infectious and immune-mediated encephalitis. We aimed to describe the demographics, associated pathogens, clinical spectrum and outcomes of ITES in Australian children from May 2013 until June 2024.
As COVID-19 vaccinations rolled out globally from late 2020, rules and recommendations regarding vaccine use in pregnancy shifted rapidly. Pre-registration COVID-19 vaccine trials excluded those who were pregnant. Initial Australian medical advice did not routinely recommend COVID-19 vaccines in pregnancy, due to limited safety data and little perceived risk of local transmission.
